Get Well Peter Gammons

Peter Gammons, one of the best baseball analysts of our time certainly, and possibly the best in history, suffered a brain aneurysm and went through several hours of emergency surgery on Tuesday.  He was airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital suffering from symptoms of a stroke, but was diagnosed with an aneurysm, and surgeons believe they were able to fix the problem through the surgery.  Gammons is now recovering in the ICU at B&W Hospital, and is listed in good condition.  His wife Gloria says that “Peter is resting comfortably…”. 

Peter Gammons, a Boston-area native has had one of the most illustrious careers of any sports-reporter to date.  Beginning as a sportswriter for the Boston Globe, his Sunday Notes column was the first of its kind, as Gammons went in-depth on each story to dig out the details of what was going wrong and right for each player and team.  Peter Gammons is now the host of ESPN’s Baseball Tonight and is a regular contributor to Sportscenter on ESPN.  He was awarded the JG Taylor Spink award by the Baseball HOF in 2005, for excellence and his unique style of baseball reporting. 

I would like to send my best wishes to Peter Gammons and his family and I hope he is able to recover fully from the aneurysm.  The baseball reporting world is aching with Gammons’ absence, and hopefully he’ll one day return to give us his valued opinions on Major League Baseball.
